Step One, Two, Three ;D

I have been meaning to start blogging for a while now, having been highly motivated & encouraged to do so by a couple of very close friends. So well here it goes... after a lot of pondering and wondering, I have decided to write about my new found passion: “Dancing”.... also because today was my last class before I go on a long break.

Now that I’m thinking about penning it down, it all started when I took a month’s crash course in ball room dancing (during my teens) to groove at this Big Ass party. It was on that dance floor, amidst a lot of fancy dancing, where my love for dancing bloomed. Before that, I was one of the shy little girls who was shit scared of stepping onto the dance floor. And a lot of my friends who know me since childhood will vouch for that. But that amazing party transformed me in ways I could not have believed possible.Now-a-days I am the first one to step up and the last one  to leave the dance floor.

So last year, when I started working and was blessed with “free weekends”, I decided to take up Jazz at Danceworx. And by far, that is one of the best decisions I have taken in my life. I apologize if this blogpost oozes out my love for the academy, but anyone who has stepped into a Danceworx studio ever, would agree with me on the fact that, THAT is one HAPPY PLACE. One thing, you perpetually do in those 4 hours of workouts, passes and routine’s on a Sunday is “SMILE”.  Yes Monday Mornings were hard for the first few weeks, and  I could barely climb the stairs . My body would hurt all over, but nothing in this world comes easy right, the point remains, for me... It was totally WORTH it!

Coming back to how I joined the classes, that is one interesting story. My parents thought I was joining the Dance classes to lose weight, and it took me quite a while to convince them that I want to take it up just coz I want to dance and there was nothing else to it. Phew! Wasn’t easy.... & as much as I love them, I don’t understand why our parents feel that we’d be wasting our time if we take up dancing and should instead utilize it in preparing for something more meaningful, & more professional. And I am stating this, coz this is a story in every 3rd Indian household, a lot of my friends have still not enrolled for a hobby of their choice, because their parents feel that those recreational activities are just a waste of time, effort and money. I knew, I was joining the classes, no matter what ... but I have never been a fan of going against my parents wishes. Luckily, one of my friends gave me an amazing idea to convince them, and it worked wonders.  I am  this typical career oriented girl who hates to step into the kitchen and that is something that has irked my parents since always. Now that I wanted to join the classes on Sundays, I told my parents that I would make breakfast for the family on Saturdays and in turn they will have to be happy about me going for the Dance Classes on Sundays. I was a little apprehensive whether it’d work on them, but they were SHOCKED and absolutely LOVED the idea.  Maybe coz they had never believed that something would ever make me step in the kitchen of my own will to cook. Haha!! (& yeah, breakfast was a smart idea, easiest to make nah!!). Well I had a decently long stint with Danceworx and even though the breakfast stopped after a couple of months, I realised a few things:
  •        Cooking isn’t that bad. In fact, if you make tasty stuff and your guests like it, that one single compliment makes your day. (And if your dad gives you a nice red note after you make the first dish & every now and then after that, it’s even better ;P)So all you girls out there, if you think like I used to, try cooking someday! I agree nobody likes to cook daily, but it’s a refreshing activity to indulge in once in a while.
  •         My parents apparently loved the "ME" that came home after the class, and now that I’m taking a break, I was surprised when they asked me why I’m not continuing alongside if I love it so much.So guys, it’s just a matter of understanding your parents for a while and they would always love to see you happy with whatever it is that makes you happy.
  •       Anyone & trust me I mean ANYONE can dance. Just don’t think about how you are looking, love yourself, your body, your moves and the rest will follow. If not, it would just be a haze and you don’t need to bother about it.

Lastly, I have this friend, who,as he says, has “ two left feet”. Unfortunately, we stay in different cities and he’ll just have to wait till he meets me to find out that he can dance. And yes Mr., you don’t necessarily have to be a few drinks down before you hit the dance floor ;)

Haha!! This is for YOU my dear friend ;P
Oh before signing out, I overheard this conversation between one Aunty and her little daughter (barely 12) on how the girl should start helping in household work simply coz she’s a girl. As expected, the feminist in me made me join their conversation and I had a nice long chat with the aunty during the Metro Ride (Ahh! how could my blogpost finish without the mention of the Delhi Metro). I’ll talk about this one the next time. But I feel extremely lucky that my parents have always (in the end) loved whatever I chose for myself as long as I was sure I wanted it and could convince them on the same.

The only problem with us "passtime" Bloggers is that we never seem to update the blogs at the frequency with which some of the other bloggers i know do, So if you learn/know/manage to that please teach me as well :)
